Really, $50?

So, I go on Craigslist.com to see if there are any companies/people who may need freelance design. There are not many, but there are also many idiots on there too. I saw a post today saying “Need a logo design”, and I got a little excited. One of the things I like to design most is a logo. I get to learn about a different type of industry or company, and then try to show that knowledge in a logo. It isn’t an easy task, and it takes a bit of time to really design a good logo. The thought process is unlimited and can take you to designs that the client would never think of, or “out of left field” and even right before your eyes. So, I dig designing them. With that said, the logo represents the company and first impressions are, well you know, important, especially in this graphically influenced world. They are not cheap, but isn’t your company worth the “first impression”? This poster on the craigslist post I saw, was asking for someone to do a logo design for them for $50. Fifty dollars?!? You have got to be kidding me. The post also says they will pay $75 to implement it into their different online entities. Look, I know times are tough, the economy isn’t too healthy, but do people really think they are going to get a professional logo for $50? The sad part is that some “designer” straight out of school or even still in school will do it for them. I am thinking that this logo has the possibility to be seen on the WORLD WIDE WEB, that is a lot of people seeing it… for $50? If you did a painting that took you, lets say, 2 hours. Then along came someone who says to you “I will give you $50 for your painting, by the way I am going to put this somewhere where the whole world has a chance to see it, and it may even bring me some income or work.”Would you sell it for the $50? Probably not. Now, a logo design should take a few more than 2 hours to design. starting in blk and white, giving 10 concepts, revisions, a final and then having to add color. Doesn’t that seem like it would be worth more than $50? I would hope so.

I thought I would start a blog to have a little corner to post about all kinds of things going on in the world of design, music, things I like, things that drive me crazy, but mostly about my world and what happens inside of it. I hope you like what I have to say. I am not trying to offend or piss anyone off. I know that I have my opinions, just like you, so please feel free to comment whether it is constructive, inspired, your opposite opinions or whatever. I appreciate you taking the time to read what I have here. Please be patient, because this is my first attempt at blogging. It may take a minute to get it going.
